Auckland City Libraries celebrates Auckland Heritage Festival
Visit Auckland City Libraries during the Auckland Heritage Festival 16 - 24 September to take part in an exciting array
of events and activities.
The festival, organised by Auckland City, celebrates our unique natural, social and built heritage - and coincides with
the anniversary of the founding of Auckland on 18 September 1840.
Events and activities at Auckland City Libraries include balloon sculptor Charles Dolbel and his team creating a
fantastic replica of the distinctive red Auckland streamliner tram at the Central City Library on 16 September, which
will be available for viewing during the festival.
If family history is your passion, take a workshop at Mt Albert Community Library and learn about the fascinating facets
of family history preparation, preservation and presentation. You can also take the opportunity during this week to
research your family history for free at the Auckland Research Centre at the Central City Library.
If Auckland history is more your cup of tea, take a tour through Remuera's past with Cr Christine Caughey as guest
speaker at Remuera Community Library on the 16 September. Or discover the history of the Three Kings Mountains with
historian Keith Fuller on the 19 September at Mt Roskill Community Library. You can also experience a fantastic
selection of talks, tours and exhibitions held throughout the week at Leys Institute Ponsonby Community Library.
Take the opportunity to purchase your copy of a limited print run of calendars during the Heritage Festival that
highlight Auckland's past and style photographer Clifton Firth. These are available from your local community library or
from the Auckland City Libraries' website - all images are from Auckland Heritage Images Online.
