Mason leads infrastructure division

North Shore City Council has appointed Geoff Mason to lead its new infrastructure services division following the merger
of the council’s water and transport teams.
Mr Mason joined North Shore City in 1998 as general manager of water services after a successful career in the private
sector both in New Zealand and overseas. He instigated the innovative Project Care, the long term programme to upgrade
the city’s wastewater networks and improve beach water quality.
Mr Mason holds a Bachelor of Chemical and Materials Engineering from the University of Auckland and a Graduate Diploma
of Business Management from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
He started his new role this month and leads a 200-member group. This includes responsibility for water supply,
stormwater, wastewater and transport.
Mr Mason reports to chief executive John Brockies and serves on the council’s leadership team of senior executives.
Mr Brockies says Geoff Mason has an impressive track record of environmental and infrastructure management during his
nine years at North Shore City.
“Throughout his professional career, Geoff has faced complex engineering, statutory and leadership challenges with an
innovative approach and always with the environment in mind.
“He’s a proven performer who I’ve asked to help address transport, the region’s greatest priority,” he says.
Mr Mason says he’s proud to work for North Shore City Council, New Zealand’s fourth largest local authority serving a
community of almost 210,000 people.
“It is a privilege to work with the very experienced and talented transport and water staff in council. By having the
two teams working more closely together, we will be better able to deliver the high standard of services and upgrading
programmes that our community wants.”
