Funding boost to accommodate Auckland city’s diverse communities
Community groups throughout Auckland have an opportunity to apply for Auckland City’s community group accommodation
support funding.
Applications are invited from Monday, 4 September to 5pm Friday, 6 October 2006.
The fund aims to provide community groups with financial assistance towards accommodation costs for the year from
January to December 2007. Costs supported by the fund include rent, rates, regular venue hire, leases and regular hire
of sports field for sporting groups.
Councillor Cathy Casey, chair of the Community Development and Equity Committee says it is just one of the many ways in
which Auckland City recognises the major contribution community groups’ make in the development of stronger communities.
“Community groups provide people with strong social and support networks. Many groups provide people, regardless of
background, lifestyle, ability, culture or ethnicity a sense of belonging thanks to the diverse range of groups
available throughout Auckland.
“We want to support community groups who contribute to building and maintaining Auckland’s strong, vibrant and diverse
communities,” says Dr Casey.
Auckland City provided $1.3 million in accommodation support funding to more than 270 diverse community groups
throughout the Auckland city region last year.
Recipients of last year’s funding included the All Breeds Dog Training Club ($718.60), the Ellerslie Toy Library
($1,149.75), the Good Samaritan for the Disabled Trust ($1,035.00), the Mt Albert Croquet Club ($537.47) and the ESOL
Home Tutors Auckland Central ($13,785).
