Boy Racers Targeted For Information
Wellington Police are appealing to the 'boy racer' fraternity to tell investigators what they know about events leading
up to the death of pedestrian Amy Edward-Mintorn in Cambridge Terrace last weekend.
Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Cotter, Wellington CIB, said inquiries are focusing on the speed in which the three
seized vehicles - a red Toyota Trueno, a white two-door Subaru WRX and a silver/grey four door Subaru WRX - accelerated
when the lights turned green at the Cambridge Terrace and Vivian Street intersection.
"We've been told that these vehicles were line abreast in all three lanes waiting for the lights to change from red to
green," he said.
Police have had reports from members of the public that cars were racing in the Kent and Cambridge Terrace areas earlier
on Saturday night. Investigators are following these up to see if any involve the cars seized.
Detective Senior Sergeant Cotter said police also want to get more details from those associated with the boy racer
community of driver behaviour on Saturday night.
"Some boy racers have already contacted us but we'd like to hear from others as they all seem to recognise one another's
vehicles."
Security camera footage from businesses in the crash area is also being studied to see if images will assist the
inquiry.
