PRESS RELEASE
Stilt walkers from Dargaville’s Circus Kumarani will make sure the show kicks off on a high note when ASB Community Trust holds its annual public meeting in Kaitaia next Sunday.
The stilt walkers will perform from 2pm until the meeting officially begins at 2.30pm on August 27, greeting guests and ensuring the meeting is a high-energy event open to all.
“We want this to be a celebration of the community’s success,” says Jennifer Gill, CEO of the grant-making trust. “We’ve invited a number of community groups to join us at the Kaitaia Community Centre to talk about the difference their work is making.”
Members of Moerewa’s He Iwi Kotahi Tatou Trust road show will be performing, Oruaiti School’s ‘Problem Solvers’ will talk about their plan to encourage their whole community to become healthier and the community work of Kaitaia’s He Korowai Trust will also be a feature. Circus Kumarani will again perform at 4.30pm, bringing the meeting to a close at around 5pm.
During the afternoon the Trust will highlight its own performance in the past year, which includes the distribution of about $55 million to not-for-profit groups throughout Northland and Auckland.
About 30% of that money went to organisations north of Auckland. High-profile Northland grants in the 2006 financial year included $2 million to the Waitangi National Trust, $450,000 to the Kawakawa Community Trust and $180,000 for Whangarei’s Arataki Ministries. However, numerous other school, community and sporting groups have gained grants this year.
ASB Community Trust decides on grants for projects in education, the arts, sport, recreation, health and social services areas each month. Founded on the sale of its shares in the ASB bank, the Trust’s investments have allowed it to grant more than $500m since being formed in 1988.
Any incorporated or charitable trust can apply for funds, provided they are a not-for-profit organisation. For more details, visit the Trust’s website: www.ASBCommunityTrust.org.nz
