Mayor’s Intentions “Under Wraps”
Waitoki School’s Art Exhibition ‘Dimensions 2006’ is coming up again for its fourth year, and each year the event is
bigger and better than the last.
This year’s exhibition and auction is attracting artists from all over Rodney and beyond, including Rodney mayor John
Law who will donate his fourth mystery piece for the charity event.
“It’s a ‘great little country show’ with a hugely diverse range of art, including mosaics, jewellery, sculptures,
paintings and more,” says organiser Donna Bloxham. “We have a wealth of budding and strongly talented people in Rodney.
It’s satisfying to see how our community gets together to enable people to display and sell their art. For us, it’s very
exciting to see what we’ll get in each year. We’re always amazed at the range of talent”.
The last weekend of August is the show date – from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th. Opening at midday on Friday for viewing
only, a gold coin donation will let people get a sneak preview up until 6pm. From 7pm-9pm a wine and cheese evening is
held with those attending being first in line to buy the art. Entry only $20.
Mayor John Law will do the honours at 7.30pm to officially open the exhibition and unveil his latest masterpiece.
Supported by West Brook Winery of Waimauku, Dad’s Pies of Silverdale and Puhoi Valley Cheese, plus the home baking of
school parents, the refreshments served are truly scrumptious. A new addition this year is a great door prize, drawn
after the mayor’s unveiling.
Saturday and Sunday are open from 10am to 4pm,. The school’s café will be serving more superb food at country prices and
entry is by gold coin donation. Over the entire weekend the art will be for sale. Many artists opt for the ‘silent
auction’ approach, with bids accepted until close off at 3.30pm Sunday. Also around this time there will be raffles
drawn and – another new addition – a prize for the artists who have entered their work.
