Hutt City Lifeguards Take Out Competition
It's official - Hutt City Council's swimming pool lifeguards are the best in the region.
Two teams from Hutt City Council's Leisure Active Business Unit proved they've got the goods when they took out both first and second places at the Wellington Region Pool Lifeguard Competition recently.
The competition, held at Naenae Pool, saw lifeguards from around the Wellington Region honing their skills and talents in a competition aimed at testing endurance, speed and emergency management skills in order to achieve best lifeguard status and entry into the national competition in Dunedin next month.
Leisure Active Business Unit Manager, Marcus Sherwood said it was a credit to the hardworking staff and the policies that are in place at Hutt City Council swimming pools.
Although the competition is intended to be fun and friendly, the skills that are being tested are ones that could mean life or death in an emergency.
The winning team was comprised of: Brad Hudson, Casey Glover, Alex Quarente and Steven Kent.
The second placed team comprised of: Teresa Visser, Shaun Kavanagh, Matt Woodrow and Justin Foster.
Justin Foster was selected in a regional team which went on to win the national title in Dunedin last week.
