Napier Hospital Site
Napier Public Health Action Group [NPHAG] has filed papers in the High Court challenging the sale of the Napier Hospital site, naming as defendants the Minister of Conservation, the Minister of Health and the Crown Health Financing Agency. Its spokesman Alan Rhodes, who can be contacted at alan.m.rhodes@gmail.com, has put out a media release on this.
I now attach a statement which I have prepared on behalf of the Group. The statement sets out, with evidence, the issues that need to be resolved before the matter of the future of the site can be put to rest. Some involve Napier and its development, others the state of public health services in the city, others what the Group believes to be the illegality of the authorities' actions.
The statement explains briefly the precise issues on which the Group is seeking Judicial Review, and what it hopes to achieve - in particular, that local voices (which the Government has shown very clearly it does not want to listen to) are heard.
This is a case being taken at considerable cost of time and money by a public-minded group fighting for important matters of principle and for the city's future. There is no self-interest in its actions. It is important that its reasons are widely and properly understood.
