Get in the Akozone: Free classes
From September 2006 onwards, the Central City Library will be running regular introductory computer courses especially tailored for first time computer users.
Each of the four courses will run once a week and will be taught by four subject matter expert librarians. The courses are introduction to computers, Microsoft Word, email, and the internet.
With more and more information available on the internet and everyday activities such as banking and booking flights now possible online, it is increasingly important that the community have easy access to online resources.
Jennifer Marshall, Learning Services Team leader, says:
“As well as enabling people to surf the internet and email friends and family, the classes will also enable participants to make the most of library resources to allow them to renew and request books from home, access online databases and much more.”
Each of the topics will be covered in-depth in small groups with a maximum of five participants to ensure each individual receives one-on-one personalised attention. Participants will have the opportunity to progress from one course to the next.
The Central City Library now has 45 computers available for public internet use including the new Akozone Centre, our brand new computer learning facility on the first floor, which has been specifically designed for computer classes.
While the courses are free of charge, participants will need to be an Auckland City Libraries’ member to book a place.
