Couple Flown To Safety After Road Accident
The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter has just flown two seriously injured patients from an accident in Kapiti.
The two patients, we believe to be a husband and wife, from Hastings, were rider and pillion passenger on a motorcycle heading southbound on State Highway 1 when a car turned in front of them.
The vehicles collided and the pair on the motorcycle are both suffering serious lower leg injuries, as well as other trauma.
Police, fire and Wellington Free Ambulance personnel were all on the scene when the Westpac Rescue Helicopter arrived. St Hwy 1 was shut down so that the helicopter could land on the road, just outside of Lindale.
The two patients, treated by two WFA paramedics, were then flown to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department where they are currently being treated and assessed.
We understand that the driver of the other vehicle was transported by road ambulance, also to Wellington Hospital.
