Be part of the BIG CHANGE
The kiwi design on the 20c coin is being discontinued, and the tuatara 5c is disappearing altogether. In fact, soon we will have no native plants or animals on our silver coins! The Sanctuary wants people to collect as many of these old coins as possible to ensure that creatures like the kiwi and tuatara are only disappearing from our pockets, not for real.
The Sanctuary, which is home to some of our rarest native species (including tuatara and kiwi) is asking people to head down to Midland Park on Monday lunchtime to find out what they are doing to make a Big Change with our small change.
We will be asking people to bring their big, old, unwanted 'kiwi' and 'tuatara', and to make a collection jar to put in their workplace. People will be invited to bring their collections to a special event at the Sanctaury on 16 September. There will be prizes for the biggest collections.
