Drier feet for beach walkers
Walkers at Campbells Bay Beach will soon be able to keep their feet dry when a bridge goes over the stream that
separates the grass reserve from the sand.
Resource consent has just been lodged for the unobtrusive bridge, which will be 20 metres long and made out of concrete
and stainless steel.
North Shore City Council parks officer for Takapuna, John McKellar, says the initiative originally came from Takapuna
Community Board.
"In 2003 the board helped to fund the development of plans for the bridge, and consultation showed support from local
residents.
"Now there's $210,000 in this year's budget to complete the bridge, which part of the Te Araroa Walkway, our all-weather
coastal path."
At the point it meets the beach, Campbells Bay Stream is usually ankle deep, but during heavy weather the rushing water
can be much deeper.
People can comment on the Campbells Bay bridge project as part of the notified consent process in coming months.
