Widespread surface flooding in Wairarapa – update no.4
Heavy rain is causing widespread surface flooding throughout Wairarapa particularly in south eastern areas.
Greater Wellington staff are continually assessing the situation and closely monitoring river levels.
Heavy rain has eased but showers are expected to continue throughout the day.
Given the already saturated conditions in these areas, people are advised to be on the alert for rising rivers and streams as well as further localised flooding and slips.
Rimutaka Hill Road: Rain is likely to turn to snow showers overnight. From early Friday morning until Friday night, 2 to 5cm of snow could accumulate about the summit, with lesser amounts down to about 300 metres.
The rain will be accompanied by gale southerly winds in the exposed coastal areas with gusts of 120km/h likely between 8pm Thursday to 9am Friday.
Local councils continue to monitor roads and public are advised to contact their local district council office for more detailed information on road closures.
