Community Consultation opens
Community consultation on draft Hagley Park and Botanic Gardens Plans
starts 21 August
Community consultation on three draft plans for Hagley Park and the
Christchurch Botanic Gardens will begin on 21 August 2006.
Councillors at today's Christchurch City Council meeting approved the
draft plans for public consultation. The plans and submission forms will
be available from 21 August to 16 October at any Council library,
service centre and at: www.ccc.govt.nz/haveyoursay
First, a new draft master plan provides a long-term direction for Hagley
Park and the Botanic Gardens. It includes 52 projects and indicative
costs. Some of these projects have already been approved and others are
proposals not identified in any Council work programme.
Second, the draft Christchurch Botanic Gardens Management Plan includes
a choice of three possible locations for a new visitor/information
centre, as well as changes to operational and staff facilities. The
Council has budgeted $11.1 million for these projects.
Finally, the draft Hagley Park Management Plan addresses issues such as
formalisation through leases of sport club facilities and the
replacement of aging trees.
The plans reflect views made by the public during a previous round of
consultation in 2004. They also align with the community outcomes
identified in the Long Term Council Community Plan and the goals and
objectives of the Greater Christchurch Urban Development Strategy and
the Council's draft Open Space Strategy.
Public meetings to explain the draft plans and offer people an
opportunity to ask questions will be held on Monday 28 August,
12.15-1.45 pm and Thursday 31 August, 7.30-9 pm at the Christchurch
Netball Centre in South Hagley Park.
