It’s curtains for cold homes
Genesis Energy is collaborating with the Huntly Energy Efficiency Trust (HEET) to bring a ‘Curtain Bank’ to the Waikato.
The Genesis Energy HEET Curtain Bank recycles donations of curtains and distributes them free of charge to families on a low income. The aim of the Curtain Bank is to help keep families warmer in the winter months and enable them to reduce the amount they spend on power.
“The Curtain Bank will make homes more energy efficient,” says Michael Campbell, Thermal Energy Manager at Genesis Energy. “Genesis Energy is committed to helping people manage their energy needs and these curtains will make a big difference for many families in and around Huntly.”
HEET have the donated curtains relined with thermal backing, which are then distributed with assistance from social agencies. A key objective of HEET is to improve the lives of low-income families by making their homes warm, dry and energy efficient, and the Curtain Bank project supports this goal.
“Approximately 12% of home heating is lost through windows. Thermal-lined curtains reduce this heat loss dramatically, creating warmer, healthier living environments while saving energy,” says Pamela Storey, Executive Chairman of HEET.
The Curtain Bank gratefully accepts donations of good-quality used curtains from individuals and businesses year round.
Donations can be delivered to HEET, 39 Hakanoa St Huntly or Well Instrument and Electrical, 293 Sandwich Rd, Pukete, Hamilton.
