Wairarapa flood event – update no. 13
MetService has lifted all severe weather warnings for Wairarapa at 8.30am this morning. The weather across the region is fine with a few cloudy periods and Northwesterlies developing.
Greater Wellington staff continues to closely monitor river levels which should now start to recede with the exception of the Ruamahunga River at Martinborough Bridge. This will remain at a high level throughout the day.
Lower Valley floodways are still operating. Lake Wairarapa has climbed to a record high level. The opening to the sea at Lake Onoke is open and the Barrage Gates are open.
Wairarapa District Health Board has issued a public health notice to all Wairarapa residents containing details of some basic public health measures which can be taken to minimise the risk to health after a flood. Details are also available from all council offices.
Local councils continue to monitor roads and public are advised to contact their local district council office for more detailed information on road closures. Information is also available online at www.wrcdemg.govt.nz

In all Wairarapa districts there are still many road closures in place due to surface flooding and slips. Drivers are urged to take extreme care on all roads and drive to the conditions.
