Makara Walkway closed
The Makara Walkway has been closed by the Department of Conservation after sections of the track were damaged by heavy rain this week.
The track, which begins and ends at Makara Beach, 16 km north of Wellington, will remain closed until further notice, DOC Poneke area manager Peter Simpson said.
“Parts of the track have been washed away and it is unsafe to use.”
DOC staff were assessing the damage today and determining what remedial work is required.
