Median now in place on Great South Road
Auckland City reminds motorists that a solid median is now in place on Great South Road.
Traffic cannot turn right into or from Great South Road.
This is the first stage of a traffic management plan for Project Greenlane, Auckland City and Transit New Zealand’s $14 million initiative to improve transport choice and traffic flow in this key area of Auckland.
The median runs from the intersection of Great South Road and Green Lane West, to Campbell Road. It aims to make the work site safe and consistently manage traffic throughout the construction, which is expected to be complete by November 2007.
Two traffic lanes in each direction are maintained during peak traffic hours however there may be traffic delays this week as the local community and motorists familiarise themselves with the turning restrictions and alternative routes.
Auckland City and its construction contractor HEB Smithbridge Ltd have staff on-site to monitor the traffic management plan. The effectiveness of the median and traffic management plan will also be reviewed throughout the project.
Variable message boards and project information signs are in place on the approaches to Great South Road, and radio and print advertising has also started.
