ARC’s Environmental Initiatives Fund is open
Auckland Regional Council’s Environmental Initiatives Fund (EIF), now in its sixth year, is seeking applicants for its 2006 funding round.
ARC’s EIF fund has more than $500,000 to distribute in 2006 and is looking to support voluntary practical projects that enhance, restore and protect Auckland’s natural resources and cultural heritage.
Since February 2000 ARC has approved 480 grants worth more than $1.1 million. Last year 135 applicants received, in total, over $500,000 of funding for environmental projects.
Past EIF funded projects include a conservation plan for a heritage building, environmental education projects in schools, pest and weed control, riparian fencing, beach care, native planting, wetland restoration and an environmental awareness programme for new migrants.
ARC Environmental Management Committee Chair Dianne Glenn says the fund is open to local groups, iwi, schools and individuals undertaking not-for-profit practical projects that enhance, restore and protect Auckland’s natural, cultural and physical environment.
“EIF is unique in that it is not just about funding – ARC staff also provide support and advice to all funded projects.”
“We like to stay involved with the people we fund and support them as it’s this community effort that makes Auckland a better place to live for everyone,” says Cr Glenn.
The closing date for applications in the 2006 funding round is Friday 4 August 2006.
For further information or to apply please phone EIF co-ordinator Leon Austin on 366 2000 x7120 or go to www.arc.govt.nz/arc/environment/funding to download forms and guidelines.
