MEDIA RELEASE
27 June 2006
Cash available for creative communities
Auckland City is inviting applications for the second round of this year’s Creative Communities funding.
Funding opens on 3 July and is available for projects that increase participation in the arts and increase the range of arts initiatives available to local communities.
Applications are welcome from all groups and individuals with arts-related projects that take place between 1 December 2006 and 1 November 2007. The projects must benefit residents of Auckland city and demonstrate artistic merit, innovation and good project management.
In the last round of funding, Creative Communities allocated just over $115,000 to 79 community art initiatives including Auckland Dance Festival Trust, Onetangi Residents Association Inc, Sri Lankan Cultural Group of New Zealand and the Waiheke Island Choral Society Inc.
Jenny Gordon, Auckland City’s arts and funding advisor, says “The funding gives additional support to groups or individuals to help them get their projects off the ground. These can be new projects or fresh ideas to expand on existing arts ventures.
“We hope that this support will enable people to develop their artistic skills and continue to develop diverse arts project that will benefit the local community.”
