Community celebrates Indian Languages Collection
Mt Albert Community Library is launching a comprehensive collection of Indian Language books on the 24 June by inviting
the community to help celebrate the event.
Auckland City Libraries recently made the decision to move a number of language collections from the Central City
Library to its community libraries. The aim of the move is to make world language collections more easily accessible for
both adults and children within the local communities who speak these languages. A combination of census and collection
data was used to help identify where the collections would be most needed.
The Indian language collection is now based at Mt Albert Community Library . This collection of 898 books includes fiction, a small number of non-fiction books and children's books written in
Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi and Panjabi. A significant number of new items has just arrived to supplement these
collections, which has been made possible through a generous grant from the Eden/Albert Community Board.
Customers are invited to help celebrate the launch of the Indian Languages Collection with a morning tea and
entertainment. Entertainment will be provided in the form of a classical Bengali singer, a dance group and a Gujarati
children's group. Speakers at the launch include Councillor Glenda Fryer and Harshad Patel, Past President of the
Auckland Indian Association.
