Rodney holiday parks get thumbs up
An independent survey has given the thumbs to Rodney District Council's four holiday parks at Whangateau, Martins Bay,
Orewa and Shelley Beach for customer service, staff and facilities.
The findings reflect the personal experiences of two 'mystery campers' employed by a market research company, who
visited the holiday parks in March 2006 during a six day camper van tour of the district.
The campers made observations and assessed performance on 41 factors including telephone service, the welcome and
check-in by each manager and his or her attitude, manner and willingness to help.
The level of satisfaction with facilities was determined by what was provided and the overall impression and condition
of those facilities. These ranged from gardens and grounds, rubbish bins and toilets to appliances, fittings and
signage.
The overall results ranged from 88 per cent satisfaction to 97 per cent - far better than the 67 per cent score of five
comparative sites throughout New Zealand.
Rodney District Council's media manager, Mike Isle, says the results reflect the dedication of the parks' managers and
the council's ongoing commitment to encouraging tourism in the district.
"Customer service excellence and the high standards at our holiday parks will ensure that we continue to attract growing
numbers of tourists to the area, which plays an ever increasing role in Rodney's economic development," says Mr Isle.
Mr Isle says that while there are always areas where even more could be done, comments such as 'This is a Top 10 quality
camp' - Orewa; 'Places like this are a pleasure to visit' - Martins Bay; 'Customer service was very polite and happy' -
Shelley Beach; and 'A great well kept, well run camp in a first class location' - Whangateau, are extremely positive.
"It goes to show that we really are providing top class amenities and service to people visiting the Rodney area."
The 2006 'mystery camper' customer service survey was the 19th survey carried out since 1998.
