At about 12.15 midday on Saturday 20 May 2006 the occupants of a Cranbrook St address in the Burnside suburb of
Christchurch were asleep as they are night shift workers.
They were awoken by a loud noise and when the male occupant went to investigate he was confronted by two males in the
passage way of his house. A struggle ensued resulting in the male victim receiving a hit to his head by a baseball bat
which belonged to the occupants at the address. The intruders then left the address.
One of the offenders was described as being a male maori in his teens. Neither of offenders had their faces covered.
The male occupant was treated at Christchurch hospital and received stitches to a head wound. He also received bruising
to his shoulder. He has since been discharged from hospital. The other occupant, a female was not involved in the
confrontation and did not receive any injuries. Both victims were very upset about what had happened.
The motive for this attack is still being investigated. The weapon used in the attack has been recovered at the address
and no property appears to have been stolen from the address.
Police would like to hear from anyone who may have any information about this attack.
