Upper Hutt City celebrates 40 years and Governor General Fergusson Family Connection
Upper Hutt was proclaimed a city on 28 May 1966 .It celebrates its 40 years birthday with a weekend of celebrations from
Friday 26 May to Sunday 28 May .Governor General Brigadier Sir Bernard Fergusson officiated in May 1966 and his son
George Fergusson has just been appointed as the new British High Commissioner for New Zealand
Mayor Wayne Guppy is delighted that George Fergusson will be the special guest in Upper Hutt on Friday 26 May and open
an exhibition celebrating 40 years of Upper Hutt at Expressions Arts and Entertainment Centre .
"Nothing higher nor more beautiful will be open to the public from 10 am on Saturday 27 May " It will feature
reflections of what Upper Hutt was like in 1966 and other aspects of its heritage.
On Friday night Experience Upper Hutt has coordinated a special late night shopping from 5.30 pm with entertainment and
a free fireworks display in the CBD at 7.30 pm .
Expressions is hosting two International Comedy Festival shows at 8 pm on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 September .Book

The Mayfair Cafe have Hot Club Sandwich ,jazz trio as special guests on Friday night.$15.00 cover charge.
On Saturday the fucus moves to the sports grounds with clubs encouraged to remember what happenned in May 1966.Old
timers are invited to all games.
On Sunday 28 May Expressions hosts a show of a film about Sir Roy Mckenzie at 1pm -gold coin donation and then at 3.30
pm the Rimutaka Lions Club host the annual Don Merton conservation lecture with travel writer Bob Marriott speaking
about' mysteries of the world '
On Sunday night at 7pm the Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club hosts '40 years of Upper Hutt music " .This will be great finish
to NZ Music month as it will feature top bands including Wayne Mason, Pete Hall and Acoustic Songbook , Ray Ahipene
Mercer , Jade Eru and John Sutherland .Upper Hutt has produced many great bands and musicians.
