Wynyard Wharf Bulk Liquid process ensures comprehensive relocation strategy

The ARC Regional Strategy and Planning Committee today endorsed the Wynyard Wharf Bulk Liquids Process Timetable,
designed to assist implementing the principles of the Waterfront Vision 2040.
The Committee confirmed that it wants a seamless relocation process for the Wynyard Wharf bulk liquid industry, prior to
the redevelopment of Wynyard Wharf and the bulk liquid industry sites, consistent with risk standards in relevant
District Plan provisions.
Committee Chairman Cr Paul Walbran said final decisions around the possible relocation of the bulk liquid industry will
need to be made after a comprehensive analysis of alternative sites and their associated cost-benefits and environmental
effects has taken place.
“The ARC is working through various issues concerning the bulk liquid industry, and is keen to work closely with all the
key players to develop workable solutions,” he said.
“We are working to ensure a coordinated plan is undertaken with all stakeholders, and to ensure alternative sites are
consistent with regional and district planning provisions.”
“This is the beginning of a long-term process and recognises the special role and significant economic importance of the
bulk liquid industry to the Auckland region,” Cr Walbran said.
The Committee endorsed the following alternative site selection criteria to assist with the process of developing a
comprehensive relocation strategy:
- Product category (HSNO classification) and risk standards
- Zoning requirements
- Requirements for deep water access
- Specific product requirements
- Transport impacts
- Environmental effects
- Social/cultural considerations.
