Discover the Central City Library tours
Aucklanders are invited to choose one of three tours at the Central City Library to learn about its history, the
services the library offers and what really happens behind the scenes. They run every Thursday at 12.10pm and they are
free.
The three tours are:
Heritage floor tour
This brand new tour of Special Collections and the Auckland Research Centre on the second floor will take visitors
through the back corridors and the historical newspaper collections. A unique opportunity is also available to see our
rarest treasures.
Behind the scenes (basement to balcony) tour
Visitors can go behind the scenes to the rarely seen depths of the Central City Library where they will be shown the
breadth of our amazing basement collections. Visitors will have a demonstration in our Preservation Unit and will also
learn about the life cycle of a book at the library in Information Resources. The end of this tour finishes with a
circumnavigation of the library’s top floor balcony to view the heritage buildings of Auckland city.
