CMJ traffic bulletin: Saturday 22 April until Thursday 27 April
Transit New Zealand would like to advise motorists of proposed closures for work on the Central Motorway Junction upgrade over the next week.
CMJ Stage 2
Full motorway closures:
Sunday 23, Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 April – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5.30am the following morning:
- Southern Motorway (SH1) southbound between Cook St off-ramp and Hobson St on-ramp
Ramp and link closures:
Sunday 23 April – CLOSED – from 11pm until 5.30am on Monday:
- Hobson St on-ramp to Northwestern Motorway (SH16) westbound
Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 April – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5.30am the following morning:
- Newton on-ramp to Northwestern Motorway (SH16) westbound
Sunday 23, Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 April – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5am the following morning:
- Northwestern Motorway (SH16) citybound to Newton Rd off-ramp
During these times motorists are requested to follow the signposted detours while the closures are in operation.
Transit New Zealand regrets any inconvenience caused.
In the event of inclement weather, the closures will be postponed to the next fine evening.
The CMJ Project
Stage 1 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project, completed in January 2005, covers the section of motorway between the Upper Queen St over-bridge and Gillies Ave on- and off-ramps.

Stage 2 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project extends from Bond St on the Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to the interface with CMJ Stage 1 near Symonds St and from Cook St on the Southern Motorway (SH1) to Symonds St. The SH16 Newton Rd to Western Springs Auxiliary Lane westbound widening project is included in CMJ Stage 2 works.
