On the high altiplano, out under the sun
Lived lots of big llamas and one little one
When everyone is too busy, too hot or too tired to play with the littlest llama, he sets off on his own in search of a
playmate. On the high altiplano, there are dangers lurking and it’s a little scary for the littlest one away from
others. When he returns home, there is a wonderful surprise waiting.
The Littlest Llama is a heart-warming book by Jane Buxton which will be launched by children’s writer and librarian Bill
Nagelkerke at a family event at the Christchurch South Library on Saturday, 22 April, from 1pm to 3pm. The community is
invited to help celebrate the launch.
Author Jane Buxton, lives in North Canterbury, where she writes children’s books and farms llamas. Llamas, she says, are
calm, beautiful creatures known for their soothing effect on people.
Jane will bring two special guests to The Littlest Llama launch – two llamas. Children will be able to pat and have
their photo taken with these gentle, friendly animals.
It is Jane’s great knowledge and understanding of these animals that shines through in this lovely story. Her fondness
and respect for llamas gives the book a real heart. Illustrator Jenny Cooper’s detailed drawings bring to life the
character of the llamas and the hot South American landscape.
The Littlest Llama is published by Mallinson Rendel Publishers. The 32-page hardback book will retail for RRP $25.
