Chch City Council draft 10-year plan available for public feedback
Christchurch City Council’s draft of its 10-year community plan is now available for public feedback.
From Tuesday (28 March) copies of the full draft plan, Christchurch O-Tautahi 2006 to ’16, and a 24-page summary will be
available at Council service centres and libraries. It can also be viewed on the web, at www.ccc.govt.nz
The Council’s monthly residents’ newsletter, City Scene, also includes information about the draft plan. It is being
distributed on Friday (31 March).
People and organisations interested in letting the Council know what they think of the plan have until Friday, 5 May to
return a submission. City councillors will hold hearings later in May and people who want to speak at one of these
meetings can indicate that on the submission forms available with the documents and on the website.
The Council’s Our City O-Tautahi facility – the former visitors’ centre on the corner of Worcester Street and Oxford
Terrace – is another place where people can learn more about the draft plan and make a submission.
Christchurch Mayor Garry Moore says he and fellow councillors have worked hard to create a plan for the city’s future
over the next decade which is affordable and achievable.
“We know people will be concerned about some of the decisions that have been made and about the unusually steep levels
of rates increases over the next three years. If you look back at past plans you will see we have been warning about
this cost pressure for a number of years,” he says. “We’re now into it and to keep the city in the shape we’re
accustomed to there’s no escaping this.
“We welcome people’s input, but to people who intend writing in to say they don’t want something closed, it would be
helpful if they also let us know where they think we could make savings,” Mr Moore says.
