AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL MEDIA RELEASE

Logan Campbell kindergarten set for a new lease on life
The historic Logan Campbell kindergarten on the southern edge of Victoria Park is set for restoration and a new lease on
life.
Auckland City is calling for expressions of interest for renovating and tenanting the building on a commercial basis.
Transit's recent confirmation that plans for the Victoria Park tunnel will not affect the land around the building have
given Auckland City a green light to consider future uses for the former kindergarten that has been vacant since the
1980s.
"One of our treasured buildings will be given a new lease of life and I'm delighted Auckland City is leading by example
in protecting and restoring this building," said Councillor Vern Walsh, chairperson of the Finance and Corporate
Business Committee.
The selected tenant will be required to manage all aspects of renovating the facility to a standard acceptable to
Auckland City, in exchange for a negotiated rental, and agreed lease term.
The building could be restored for a mix of commercial and non-commercial uses such as a café, restaurant, art gallery
or community office accommodation.
Auckland City will be looking for a tenant that will be of benefit to park users and that will complement the park and
the building.
The building is currently in a poor state of repair and work will begin immediately to protect it from further
deterioration. The restoration is estimated to cost between $350,000 to $600,000 to bring it up to a medium standard
finish.
