Western Corridor report shows leadership
The report of the Western Corridor Study Hearing Committee presented to Mayors, councilors and executives yesterday was hailed as “sound and well substantiated” by the Mayor of Kapiti Coast District, Alan Milne.
“The commissioners have shown great leadership.
“What was needed was an approach that reflected the needs of all the Western Corridor communities and respected the views of the submitters; this report does that.
“The commissioners have recognized that the Western Corridor must be considered part of a package which also includes the Hutt Valley strategy and the Wellington City proposals.
“For the Kapiti Coast, placing the Western Link Road in the first decade is a very welcome step.
“We will need to negotiate with Land Transport New Zealand over the level of subsidy but, for the moment, the level of priority the committee has placed on the road is very gratifying.
“The rail moves are also very encouraging. Double tracking to Lindale and electrification to Waikanae are good news.
