Enjoy a night 'Out of Africa' at Auckland Zoo
An entertaining evening experiencing the best of South Africa's sights, sounds and tastes is on offer at Auckland Zoo on Sunday 9 April (4.30pm-9pm) - and all for a great cause.
The Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund 'African Evening' begins at 4.30pm with a behind the scenes look at some of the zoo's exotic Pridelands animals: zebra, giraffe, rhino and more.
A delicious traditional South African meal, accompanied by the sounds of African music, is being served in the Old Elephant House. After dinner, Auckland Zoo director and former wildlife ranger, Glen Holland, will give a talk and slideshow about African wildlife and Zulu culture.
A cash bar will operate on the night, with a tempting selection of African wine and beer. The event runs from 4.30pm to 9pm, and also includes an auction. Tickets are $70pp, and strictly limited, so early booking is recommended (booking deadline is 3 April). Contact Auckland Zoo Information Centre on (09) 360 3805.
All funds raised for this event will go to the Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund. Among projects this fund supports are the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Project, Cheetah Outreach, 'Ark in the Park' in the Waitakere Ranges, Campbell Island teal (part of the Department of Conservation's recovery plan), and the Cuc Phuong Turtle Project in Vietnam.
