Go By Bike Week rolls into town
Tomorrow (25 February) sees the beginning of Go By Bike Week, a week of cycling events dedicated to encouraging people to change their mode of transport to that of a two-wheeled variety.
Key events on this year's calendar include the first Mayoral Challenge Family Bike Ride, the Go By Bike Breakfast and Bike Wise Business Battle.
On Sunday, the Mayoral Challenge Family Bike Ride, which pits mayors from around the country against one another, is an opportunity for families to get on their bikes and follow Mayor Garry Moore around Hagley Park (starting at Carlton Corner). Mr Moore will then be allocated a score determined by the amount of cyclists that follow him.
Wednesday morning sees the return of the Go By Bike Breakfast where those cycling to work will be rewarded with a free breakfast at Victoria Square.
And running throughout the week is the Bike Wise Business Battle. The inter-business event awards the company that can get the highest percentage of staff on their bike during Go By Bike Week.
Other events during the week include recreational rides, training rides, cycle trailer workshops and a Go By Bike Breakfast at the University of Canterbury.
