Road Delays “Unacceptable”, Says Hutt City Mayor
Hutt City Mayor David Ogden today labelled the Government’s decision to delay new road projects in the Wellington region
as “unacceptable”.
“I don’t believe its good enough for the Government to force people to have to wait up to eight years more for new roads
in our region,” Mayor Ogden said.
“The Government has ratcheted up petrol taxes and announced huge budget surpluses, yet it claims to have no money in the
kitty to build much needed new roads in the time promised.
“The Government’s decision to scrap early planting on the proposed Transmission Gully route also suggests it has made up
its mind to push ahead with the unpopular coastal highway, despite a large majority of submissions to the hearing
committee opposing it.
“The Government appears to be ignoring the needs of Wellington motorists. We will be making a submission with a view to
getting these projects back on the road,” Mayor Ogden said.
