Iconic Festival Just Over a Week Away
Iconic Devonport Food and Wine Festival is about to grace Windsor Reserve, Devonport once more. Next Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 February over 30 food and wine stalls will be complemented by continuous entertainment on two stages from 11am each day. With the holiday season well and truly over for most people, the Festival will offer an exciting chance to relax and unwind with the whole family in one of Auckland’s most stunning locations.
Kathy Cunningham, Festival Management Director, says “with the final preparations being perfected and reconfirmed for the Festival we are really excited about the new elements this year. There are many stallholders taking part for the first time and bringing some freshness to what is offered, the entertainment is a diverse mix for young and old sure to please the whole family!”
Over 45 volunteers will be helping out at the Festival this year, mainly members of the Devonport Rotary Club, their partners and friends. Help is GIVEN from early Friday and continues right through to Monday afternoon. Without it the Festival could never go ahead. By sacrificing their time Rotarians fulfill their desire to give back to the community and donate the Festival proceeds to charity and community organizations.
In 2006 the two main beneficiaries of the Festival are The First Tee, an organization dedicated to helping kids to learn life lessons in a fun and positive way by using the game of golf. and The Michael King Writers’ House, situated on Mount Victoria, Devonport, the first facility of its kind in New Zealand, supporting creative New Zealand writers. The remainder of the 2006 proceeds will be distributed after the Festival to those who submit an application to the Devonport Rotary Club.
Festival goers are encouraged to leave early for the Festival and park in Downtown Auckland catching a Fullers Ferry that comes every half hour to Devonport. Another option is to park free in the Bruce Mason Centre, Takapuna and catching a Ritchie’s bus every 15minutes.
Gates open at 11am both Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $25 and are available from Ticketmaster (0800 111 999 or www.ticketmaster.co.nz) or from your local Post Shop. By pre-purchasing tickets you will receive one free glass of wine upon entry. Tickets will be available, from the gate, on the day for $25 but do not include a free glass of wine.
