Monte Cassino memorabilia sought for exhibition
Historian and public programmer Fiona Gouldthorp is currently researching the stories of Monte Cassino veterans and their families for an upcoming exhibition, Return to Monte Cassino.
To enhance the exhibition being held at Christchurch City Council's Our-City O-Tautahi in time for Anzac Day, Mrs Gouldthorp is asking the community if they have any memorabilia they would like to lend for the duration of the display.
"Materials such as diaries, photographs and medals would be welcome contributions," she says. "I would also like to hear from anyone, both men and women, that would be willing to talk to me about their experiences at Monte Cassino."
The exhibition is based on a photographic essay by Southland photojournalist Maree Wilks who accompanied veterans to the 60th anniversary commemorations in 2004.
People wishing to contribute to the exhibition can contact Fiona Gouldthorp at vividpast@xtra.co.nz or on 354 5150.
