Shihad to play free gig in Student City.
Legendary Kiwi rockers Shihad are to headline Student City Day, a free open air concert in Palmerston North on Sunday
5th March.
Palmerston North is home to 25000 tertiary students and the city is welcoming them with a concert in The Square closing
Orientation with a bang.
Shihad have been New Zealand’s top rock act of the past decade and their recent win in the Best Rock Album category at
the New Zealand Music Awards illustrates that they are on the very top of their game will be supported by Farmer Pimp,
Black Chrome, Twice Daily and more
Kevin Delaney, Student City Coordinator, said “Having Shihad headline this event is a great coup for us. They are
probably the best Kiwi band around and I can’t wait to see The Square packed with students having a great time.” He
added, “The support from the community has been fantastic we’d particularly like to thank sponsors who have already come
on board, Arena Manawatu, The Manawatu Standard and Inspire Net but there are still many sponsorship opportunities
available for those who want to support Student City”.
Arena Manawatu CEO John Lynch said that “Arena Manawatu is thrilled to be able to provide the Central Energy Trust big
screen for community events such as the Student City Day in the Square. The Central Energy Trust has assisted with the
purchase of the big screen which has meant that both community and commercial groups alike can benefit from the screen
at a reduced rental rate throughout the Manawatu region.”
Palmerston North’s Student City campaign promotes the city’s student lifestyle as the best in New Zealand. It is a
coordinated campaign run by the City Council, Massey University, UCOL, IPC, and the Student Associations. The aim is to
coordinate and promote student events and bring further vibrancy to the city and campuses.
