Restorative justice conference to express loss for tree
Media are invited to attend a restorative justice conference to hear members of the public express their views about the
illegal destruction of a scheduled pohutukawa tree in Royal Oak.
George Bernard Shaw was convicted last year of destroying the 100-year-old, 11-metre high scheduled pohutukawa. He will
be sentenced in the Auckland District Court on 13 February 2006.
The sentencing has been delayed to allow for the restorative justice conference, which will take place at a specially
convened meeting of the Maungakiekie Community Board nearly a year to the day since the tree was attacked.
Members of the public who have been affected by the tree felling will be able to speak at the conference and express
their thoughts and feelings about the offence.
George Bernard Shaw will also have an opportunity to speak.
