CMJ Traffic Bulletin: Saturday 21 January Until Thursday 26 January
Transit New Zealand would like to advise motorists of proposed closures for work on the Central Motorway Junction upgrade over the next week.
CMJ Stage 1
Ramp and link closures:
Sunday 22 until Thursday 26 January – CLOSED – overnight from 8pm until 5.30am the following morning:
• Port on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
• Port on-ramp (SH1 westbound)
• Khyber Pass Rd off-ramp (SH1 northbound)
• Wellesley St on-ramp (SH16 westbound)
CMJ Stage 2
Full motorway closures:
Sunday 22 until Thursday 26 January – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5.30am the following morning:
• Southern Motorway (SH1) southbound between Cook St off-ramp and Hobson St on-ramp
Monday 23 until Wednesday 25 January – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5.30am the following morning:
• Southern Motorway (SH1) northbound between Symonds/Port/Wellesley St off-ramp and Wellington St on-ramp
Ramp and link closures:
Sunday 22 until Thursday 26 January – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5.30am the following morning:
• Northwestern Motorway to the Southern Motorway (SH16 to SH1 southbound) link
• Northwestern Motorway to Port (SH16) port-bound link
• Hobson St on-ramp to Northwestern Motorway (SH16) westbound
Monday 23 until Wednesday 25 January – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5.30am the following morning:
• Southern Motorway (SH1) off-ramp to Nelson St citybound
• Southern Motorway to Northwestern Motorway (SH1 to SH16 westbound) link
• Port to Northwestern Motorway and Wellesley St on-ramp (SH16 westbound) link
Sunday 22 January – CLOSED – during the day from 9am until 5pm:
• Newton on-ramp to Northwestern Motorway (SH16) westbound
During these times motorists are requested to follow the signposted detours while the closures are in operation.
Transit New Zealand regrets any inconvenience caused.
In the event of inclement weather, the closures will be postponed to the next fine evening.
The CMJ Project
Stage 1 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project, completed in January 2005, covers the section of motorway between the Upper Queen St over-bridge and Gillies Ave on- and off-ramps.

Stage 2 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project extends from Bond St on the Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to the interface with CMJ Stage 1 near Symonds St and from Cook St on the Southern Motorway (SH1) to Symonds St.
Project information centre: 13-19 Howe St, Freeman’s Bay, Monday to Thursday
9.00am – 4.30pm, Friday 9.00am – 4.00pm, Saturday (except long weekends) 10:00am – 12:00pm.
