Property enterprise board will ensure development with vision in the city
Auckland City's new property enterprise board will give Auckland City both objective and visionary advice to guide urban
projects within Auckland City's property portfolio.
The board, appointed by the council last week, brings together the expertise of some of New Zealand's leading minds in
property and urban development.
Chaired by John Wells, board members are Adrienne Young Cooper, Peter Alexander, Chris Aiken, Ian Athfield, and Nigel
McKenna.
Councillor Vern Walsh, chairperson of the Finance and Corporate Business Committee says the board's role, while
advisory, was to think as if it was the landowner and actively influence how the land is developed.
"The board will help us show positive examples of development to ensure the city is developed in line with our high
standards of urban design," said Mr Walsh.
The property enterprise board will implement the principles of Auckland City's Development with Vision policy. This sets
the framework to revitalise the city and to ensure Auckland city grows around the needs of their people and its
requirements to develop the economy.
The board will also provide governance over negotiations with project partners including; property purchases and
disposals; requests for proposals; and tender selections.
One of the board's first challenges will be to manage the future leasing and development of the Matiatia development on
Waiheke Island.
