Major District Initiative - Greymouth Aquatic Centre passes pre assessment stage
The West Coast Development Trust has agreed with the recommendation from the Project Control group and Grey District Council that the Greymouth Aquatic Centre be the recommended project to be considered under the Trust’s Major District Initiative (MDI) scheme.
A formal application will now be completed by the Aquatic Centre and the Grey District Council, for consideration by the Trust’s Advisory Body in the then the Board of Trustees.
The Trust wishes to thank all those involved in this process to date, especially the Council, community representatives, sports and leisure groups and those who contributed their time and expertise to evaluate and prioritise projects for the Major District Initiative.
It is expected that the application will be submitted by the Aquatic Centre and progressed through the Trust’s processes over the coming months.
Mayor Kokshoorn said “the Grey District Council thanks the West Coast Development Trust for their commitment to the social wellbeing of the West Coast region”.
Council has three councilors on the Aquatic Centre Trust and has made a prior commitment of $1 million.
Mayor Kokshoorn said “that Council is working closely with the Aquatic Centre Trust who have an active committee of 20 members.”
