Manurewa transport services on-track
Council’s Transport Committee signalled the green light for a new transport interchange at Selwyn Road, Manurewa when it
awarded the construction contract to HEB Smithbridge Ltd. Work on the interchange will begin later this month and will
give Manurewa residents better access to rail services by car and bus.
The interchange is part of a region-wide programme for improving rail services and facilities, in collaboration with
Auckland Regional Transport Network (ARTNL) and the Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA).
HEB Smithbridge Ltd. are also constructing the bridge for the new Manurewa train station, set for completion in March
2006.
"Manukau residents want a well-developed public transport network with better access to these services," says Councillor
Alf Filipaina, Chairman of the Transport Committee. "This development in Manurewa is part of our commitment to realising
the goals of Tomorrow's Manukau and getting our city moving efficiently and safely."
The Council's 2005/06 Annual Plan includes an allocation of $1.4 million for rail related projects, including further
improvements at Manurewa’s Homai Station.
