Park to Pier family bike ride postponed to 13 November
Inclement weather that has settled in Christchurch has forced the postponement of the Park to Pier family bike ride. The event will now be held on its wet-weather date of Sunday, 13 November.
With 1500 registrations, and several more hundred expected on the day, this will be the biggest Park to Pier event yet. Registered participants range in age from 1-75 years old.
For the first time, the event which takes in some of Christchurch’s finest cycleways, will be run from two starting points to encourage younger riders and the not-so-fit to participate.
About 80 per cent of cyclists will journey 12km from Hagley Park to New Brighton Pier while the remainder will trek 5km from Poritt Park.
This year’s spot prize, aimed at providing the winner with more recreation time, is a night and dinner at Rydges Hotel for the family, a garden design by the Botanic Gardens with City Care to install plants from Linwood Nursery. And while the winner’s are staying at Rydge’s, Council’s Animal Control will look after their pets and the Ultimate Car Wash Café will clean their car.
While online and postal registrations have closed, anyone interested in completing the event can register on the day, but it would pay to arrive at the starting points early.
