Moorhouse Ave Update
Repair work on Moorhouse Ave likely to take until Friday morning
Christchurch City Council advises drivers that work to repair a roadway collapse on the corner of Moorhouse Avenue and
Montreal Street is unlikely to be completed before early Friday morning and drivers are asked to avoid the avenue's
eastward lanes, especially during peak-traffic times.
On Tuesday evening a portion of the roadway collapsed and excavation today has shown it was caused by the partial
failure of a large stormwater pipe running north-south across the intersection.
Peter McDonald, the Council's pavement maintenance team leader says the repair work is likely to take all of tomorrow
(Thursday, 13 October) and the area could also be causing a traffic bottleneck into Friday morning.
"It'll definitely still be an area of serious blockage for traffic in the (Thursday) morning," Mr McDonald says. "By
Friday morning I'd expect we'll have it sorted or at worst there'll be only one of the three east-bound lanes on
Moorhouse closed but it would still be a good idea for drivers to think about taking another route."
Again, the CCC would appreciate it if broadcast newsrooms could pass this message on to their morning drive-time show
hosts.
