Christchurch City Council asks drivers to avoid Moorhouse Avenue
Christchurch City Council asks commuters and other drivers to avoid the eastward lanes of Moorhouse Avenue tomorrow
because work to repair a large collapse in the roadway must begin tomorrow (Wednesday, 12 October) morning.
The hole, which has probably been caused by water from the failure of either a sewer or water main, became apparent
earlier this evening and is on the corner Moorhouse and Montreal streets.
Work to fix it will mean the east-bound, or north, side of Moorhouse will be restricted to a single through lane and
will create a bottleneck with long delays at peak time.
“Anyone who comes along Moorhouse from the Hagley Park end and is wanting to go further east than Montreal Street should
think about an alternative route,” says Peter McDonald, the Council’s pavement maintenance team leader.
“Until we get into it, we won’t know how much work is needed to repair it, but it’s likely to take all day and perhaps
into Thursday morning.”
