Media Release
Traffic delays can be expected overnight during October and November on Auckland Harbour Bridge
Resealing work on the Auckland Harbour Bridge originally scheduled for this week – has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions. The work has now been provisionally scheduled to begin on Sunday 16 October and carry on through November. Again, this start date is dependent on good weather.
The resealing work will take place at night between 9.00pm – 5.30am, weather permitting. During these times, the centre four lanes of the bridge will be closed to traffic which will use the clip-on lanes. The Curran Street on-ramp will also be closed overnight.
Transit Regional Manager, Richard Hancy says the resealing, essential to the upkeep of the Harbour Bridge, has been scheduled for the least busy time of the day to minimise inconvenience to the public.
“Going by previous resurfacing campaigns, we are confident that the Harbour Bridge resealing will cause minimum disruption,” he says. “Provided people are aware of the closures, and take alternative routes where they can, traffic should keep flowing.”
Transit will be reminding drivers of the closures with advertising and community notices, as well as signage on the motorways and near the bridge. There will also be a free call number kept updated (0800 RESEAL).
