Ideas welcome for Dominion Road urban design
Anyone interested in the future of Dominion Road is encouraged to attend public open days on 13 to 15 October showcasing
urban design ideas for this key transport route.
Auckland City is upgrading Dominion Road to protect and improve the street for passenger transport and ensure people
continue to have good travel choices on this strategically important route.
Part of the project includes developing a streetscape and urban design plan to guide the way the street looks and feels.
The open days form the main part of public consultation about this plan.
The council’s Transport and Urban Linkages Committee chairperson, Councillor Richard Simpson says it’s vital the road
works well for the people who use it – whether they are on foot, bike, in a bus or a car.
“While the Dominion Road project is primarily about providing sustainable transport choice, clear urban design
principles will ensure transport solutions aren’t introduced in isolation.
“The urban design plan will not only show what some transport improvements such as bus stops and cycle lanes will look
like, but importantly, it will set out some design principles to help energise Dominion Road’s communities.”
The council will be displaying the draft urban design and streetscape plan in open days at Dominion Road’s three
shopping centres.
Mt Roskill shopping centre: Thursday, 13 October, 11am to 3pm
Balmoral shopping centre: Friday, 14 October, 9am to 12pm
Saturday, 15 October, 1pm to 4pm
Valley Road shopping centre: Friday, 14 October, 1pm to 4pm
Saturday, 15 October, 9am to 12pm
Display material will include drawings, information and ideas about trees, use of open space, paving, parking and
pedestrian and vehicle connections. Members of Auckland City’s project team will also be present at the open days to
take feedback and answer queries.
The display will then move to the Mt Eden War Memorial Hall from Monday, 17 October through to Thursday, 27 October.

The consultation period ends on Friday, 28 October. The final urban design and streetscape plan will be presented to the
Transport and Urban Linkages Committee in November this year.
