Feminine faces elected to Newmarket board
Three businesswomen were elected to the Newmarket Business Association last night, which in the past year has been
dominated solely by men.
“I am delighted with the board’s composition. It is now a lot more representative of the 1,400 members it represents.
The three highly successful women on our board will among other things add some real marketing nous to the team,” said
Cameron Brewer, General Manager of the Newmarket Business Association.
Those elected were: Don Bain (Westfield), David Compton (Quest Hotel), Peter Corner (Rodney Wayne), Carolyn Hanson
(Encourage Smart Retailing), Terri Purchase (Wasabi Advertising), and Emma Thompson (Two Double Seven). Chairman Darryn
Kendall (Regal Drycleaners) was re-elected unopposed as was Treasurer Carl Sowter (Marley Loft).
Peter Snelling (Tramco Group) has resigned after a considerable contribution, and board member for the past year, Barry
Thomas (Speedy Signs), was not re-elected. New nominee Grant Aislabie (Newmarket Law) was not elected, nor was former
board member Mark Beckett (Mark Beckett Diamonds).
“The AGM at Bistro Theatre restaurant was a great night, with about 60 people in attendance including new Epsom MP
Rodney Hide. The board election was a strong contest with the association stronger for it.
“The Newmarket Business Association is reinvigorated with a lot of enthusiasm for the future. We’ve adopted an ambitious
three-year strategic plan which will see the association become a much stronger advocate, marketer, service provider,
and community leader,” said Cameron Brewer.
