Media Release
Open Day scheduled for the Newmarket viaduct improvement project
As part of Transit New Zealand’s public consultation on the Newmarket viaduct improvement project, a public open day is to be held at the Officer’s Club at 14 Edgerley Avenue, Newmarket between 10am and 4pm on Saturday 8 October 2005. Transit representatives and members of the project team will be on hand to discuss any queries members of the public may have about the project.
The Newmarket Viaduct Improvement Project is part of a series of projects designed to reduce congestion through the Central Auckland motorway network.
Transit’s proposal is to replace, in stages, the existing viaduct and move it eastwards by 12 metres to give it one more southbound lane. The new viaduct will meet modern structural and safety standards and, with the additional lane, add an additional three metres width to the existing viaduct footprint.
As part of the project, Transit proposes to continue the additional southbound lane to Green Lane interchange. This additional lane will fit within the existing motorway boundary.
The construction phase will take three years and completion is scheduled for 2011/12.
