Council wins international website award
Wellington City Council's website, www.Wellington.govt.nz, has been judged one of the world’s leading government websites in an international internet marketing competition.
The Council won an “Outstanding Website Award” in the government section of the Web Marketing Association’s 2005 WebAward Competition. The Boston-based competition received more than 2,100 entries from 33 countries. Websites were judged on innovation, content, technology, interactivity, navigation and ease of use.
Wellington Mayor Kerry Prendergast says the award proves the Council is doing an outstanding job in using the internet to communicate with the public.
“Our website has been judged against websites worldwide, and the judges have decided our site is one of the best - that’s absolutely fantastic.”
The Web Marketing Association (WMA) was founded in 1997 to help set a high standard for internet marketing and corporate web development on the World Wide Web. The organisation is made up of internet marketing, advertising, public relations and design professionals.
Council Web Manager Pauline Northrop says the Council has been working hard at making the website a comprehensive source of information on Wellington City and easy to use.
“This award shows we are succeeding in those areas.”
The Web Marketing Association award is the second major achievement in a year for the Council’s website. Last November it was voted Best Government Site in New Zealand in the annual NetGuide Web Awards.
